NSE

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is India's premier stock exchange, established in 1992 and headquartered in Mumbai. As the world's largest derivatives exchange by number of contracts traded and third largest in cash equities by number of trades, NSE has solidified its position as a leading global exchange.

Notably, NSE was the first exchange in India to introduce electronic trading, revolutionizing the country's financial landscape. Its flagship index - NIFTY 50, is a widely followed benchmark, complemented by other significant indices such as NIFTY Next 50, NIFTY 500, NIFTY Midcap 100, and NIFTY Smallcap 100. To support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups, NSE launched the NSE EMERGE platform.

The exchange's governance and management are structured through India Index Services and Products Limited (IISL), which oversees the NIFTY brand and indices. NSE's commitment to innovation is evident in its advanced trading infrastructure, T+1 settlement cycles, GIFT Nifty trading, and real-time market surveillance systems.

These enhancements have notably improved market efficiency and investor confidence.

In FY24, NSE reported impressive revenues of ₹14,780 crore, marking a ~25% year-on-year growth and a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of ~30% over five years. This growth is largely attributed to increased investor participation post-COVID, with the trading segment contributing approximately ~90% of total revenue. The exchange witnessed a remarkable increase in trading volume in CY23, with 38,114 million derivative contracts traded, up from 3,790.09 million contracts pre-pandemic. Regulatory fees, representing 27% of total costs, have risen at a CAGR of ~75% over the last five years.
